Experience the Houseboat Lifestyle

Getting away for a weekend or a longer period of time doesn’t mean having to stay at the same hotel or bed and breakfast.

Why not consider doing something out-of-the-ordinary such as renting a houseboat?  One of the best places to do so is in the northwestern State of Washington.

In Pleasant Harbor, for instance, “Houseboats for Two” provides guests with fabulous and affordable accommodations.  Each houseboat is fitted with queen size berths, fully equipped galley (kitchen for those who haven’t acquired the boat life lingo), welcome basket of goodies, luxurious robes, a complete entertainment center featuring flat screen television, VCR, state of the art stereo with DVD and CD players, fireplace and sumptuous furnishings.  You can spend the day sipping champagne while soaking your troubles away in the 28-jet hot tub.  At the marina, you can shop for supplies, buy souvenirs or order a pizza.  Not far from your secluded cove you can visit the breathtaking Rockybrook Falls and go up to Mount Walker from where you can marvel in the vistas of Seattle, the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier.  A ferry service is available to take you to the area’s state parks.

The Lake Roosevelt Houseboats are another excellent choice.  You can travel through the Columbia River and enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your deck.  All accommodations feature complete bathrooms, air conditioning, life vests, VHF radios for communication, fresh water and fire extinguishers.  You may travel at a speed of not more than seven to ten miles per hour and be docked prior to dusk.  The rules are quite clear and although boating and safety courses are not mandatory for vacationers, they’re usually recommended.

The Keller Ferry Marina also offers houseboats in Lake Roosevelt.  With miles of unspoiled beaches and tranquil coves, it’s a vacationer’s dream.  The lake is 150 miles long and enjoys plenty of sunshine throughout the year.  The marina allows for travelers to rent the luxurious 59’ Colville model filled with even more amenities.  It has a wider hallway giving easy access to wheelchairs.  Bathrooms and shower facilities have longer and lower grab bars.  And the home theater, rear deck swimming pool and wine cooler will make you think twice about returning to on-land lodging.
