Calgary – a City Like no other |
|
If you’ve always wanted to visit Canada, why not travel to Calgary, a city that offers excitement and variety in the middle of the Canadian heartland. Calgary, located in the beautiful foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains, happens to be the largest city in the province of Alberta, and the third largest city in all of Canada. With such a sizeable population, you would assume that Calgary has lots to offer. And it does. Your first stop through this Canadian city should be the Calgary Tower. This magnificent tower, which stands more than 600 feet above the city, allows you to view the greater metropolitan area of Calgary with the majestic Rocky Mountains in the background. Ride up to the observation deck and step out on to the amazing glass floor where you can look directly down at those below. But if you’d rather catch a glimpse of the stunning Canadian skyline, look straight through the equally clear glass panes. If all this gets you a bit woozy, order a cold soda at the Tower’s revolving restaurant. Just don’t sit down at noon, as the restaurant makes a 360-degree rotation. Once you leave the tower, head over to Calgary’s amazing Stephen Avenue Walk, the city’s National Historic District. This avenue is dedicated solely to pedestrians from 6 am to 6 pm each day. This pedestrian area compliments the avenue’s historic buildings that line the street. Stroll through its many boutiques, pubs, restaurants and unique shops. If you want to purchase a painting or two, don’t miss stopping in one of its highly acclaimed galleries. But if you’re searching for that perfect piece of jewelry or crafts work, do stop by one of the street vendors that sell their goods along the avenue. If you happen to be visiting during the month of July, don’t miss the renowned Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. This event, which runs 10 days each year in July, features the old Wild West at its best. Here, you’ll be privy to a real-life, action-packed rodeo show, where real-life cowboys show you how to rope in a cow. If that’s not enough, watch one of the chuckwagon races or climb aboard one of the amusement park rides. In Calgary, you’ll experience Canada at its best. |
