A Tiny Destination with Major Tourist Appeal

A Tiny Destination with Major Tourist AppealA visit to Canada merits a detour to the fabulous Granville Island, which is connected to Vancouver by a scenic highway.

Although it’s considered part of the city, it’s a cosmopolitan destination with a personality of its own.

Granville Island is a dream location for enjoying a vibrant cultural scene, sublime shopping and unbelievable dining.  It offers a bounty of pleasures with its marinas filled with fishing boats, luxury yachts and houseboats available for short or long stays.  And for families traveling with children, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy kid’s markets, theme parks and playgrounds.

Among the recreational sites not to be missed, the Indoor Play Station is the perfect escape for all ages boasting a fantastic water park.  The Granville Island Brewery is another must offering tours and beer tasting opportunities.

And don’t be surprised if your visit coincides with a festival or two.  In Granville, whether it’s summer or winter there’s always something going on.  Between the Writers and Readers Festival, the International Jazz Celebrations and the Wooden Boat Fest to name a few, you won’t hear the word boredom mentioned even once.

Make time to visit the 90,000 square foot market, showcasing every type of trinket imaginable.  No wonder it’s the only one in the continent to have won awards.  Check into the fabulous opportunities to take scuba lessons, underwater photography courses, sailing and cooking classes or to participate in a comic’s workshop.  Tour the world acclaimed museums showcasing outstanding exhibits of trains, ships and sports fishing.  View the rowing competitions or the dragon boat races.  In Granville Island, there’s never a dull moment!

And when you get hungry, the Sandbar Restaurant will delight you with its menu of regional seafood specialties like wild salmon, Dungeness crabs and many other delectable treats.  But if the lines are too long, fret not, for the selection of eateries is simply fantastic.

With so much to see and do, you might consider reserving a room at the  Granville Island Hotel where you’ll be staying in style.  All of the rooms have been exquisitely appointed with a historic environment and windows from where to observe the sailboats, the mini-ferries, posh cabin cruisers and small canoes.

Granville Island is beyond amazing.
