Seeing America’s Third Largest City

When you think of visiting the huge, cosmopolitan cities of the United States, what usually comes to mind is New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco.

But one other city should not be missed as well, and that’s Chicago.  Chicago is America’s third largest city and sits in the heartland of the country.  Known for its gangster past, today it is a model for clean and well-run cities.  And when visiting the ‘windy” city, you’ll have plenty of sites and attractions to choose from.  Here’s just a sampling of some key places of interest in the middle of this cosmopolitan city.

The Sears Tower is a must-see if you’re touring Chicago.  This Chicago icon had the title of being the tallest building in the world until 1997, when the twin towers in Malaysia took the title.  It still maintains the title of being the tallest building in Chicago.  And you’ll really feel that height when traveling up to the observation deck, some 1,300 feet above the ground.  The best feature of the deck is the glass balcony where you can step out an additional four feet and look directly down.  You’ll have an amazing view of the Chicago skyline, Chicago River and beyond.

But if you’re afraid of heights, don’t fret.  There is always the illustrious Millennium Park to visit.  Located in downtown Chicago, this magnificent park is what Central Park is to New York City.  Here, you’ll find plenty to do and see for just about anyone.  If visiting during the winter months, you’ll have the chance to ice skate in the park’s huge ice rink, for free.  During the other months of year, it turns into a culinary delight where you can find just about any type of cuisine imaginable.  If music is your passion, don’t miss one of the outstanding concerts in one of the most technologically advanced outdoor venues in the world.  And in the park’s popular Chase Promenade, you’ll be treated to unforgettable outdoor festivals and family events that you’ll remember forever.  But if the weather turns a bit chilly, don’t worry. There are plenty of indoor venues to enjoy the opera, classical ballet or even chamber music.

In Chicago, you’ll have the time of your life.
